The delivery of 100 skateboard decks to the good folks at Amnesia wouldn’t normally be a cause for great concern.
Well, anything but 100 skateboard decks missing a crucial 2 inches in length….
Realising that someone at their wood shop had made a mistake, the Amnesia collective had a decision to make:
Destroy or recreate?
Had this mistake provided an unlikely opportunity to do something else with these pieces of
wood besides skate them?
A few discussions and several cold refreshments later an idea was born. To invite 100 people from different areas
of art and design – painters, sculptors, graphic designers, graffiti artists and everyone in between - to use these
skateboards as their canvas and re-create a non-functional object into an expression of their personality, an artwork.
Across the Board is not a show exclusively about skateboarding. It’s about freedom of expression and the individual– and it celebrates the idea that art, like skateboarding, can be done almost anywhere.
Across the Board will be held at Wallspace Gallery in Surry Hills, opening on Friday the 3rd of August and running for a week.
100% of all sale proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Council NSW.
